Yin & Meditation
Two hour class, once per month, where you can expect long held poses to reach deep into the connective tissue, revitalising your whole body. There will be 80 minutes of actual yin poses, then we roll straight into a 40 minute Yoga Nidra meditation.
Yin Yoga: A floor-based practice where we hold poses for minutes at a time. This provides a healthy stress on the deeper tissues including connective tissues, ligaments, tendons and bones. When we apply this sort of stress to the body, a few things happen simultaneously.
Firstly, we allow the hyaluronic acid molecules to soften and open up, working more effectively to draw water into the surrounding tissues to hydrate the area. This creates greater ability for these tissues to glide on top of each other, providing improved mobility and flexibility in the area.
Secondly, by holding stress on the tissues, we create an environment for them to become stronger as a natural physiological response to the stress, resulting in more agile and youthful joints in your body.
Additionally, yin yoga stimulates the more subtle parts of your being, influencing you not only physically, but mentally and emotionally.
Yoga Nidra: The direct translation is ‘yogic sleep’, however the applied understanding of this term is ‘a change of consciousness’ as you experience in sleep. It is a guided meditation practice suitable for the experienced meditator or beginner. The style of Yoga Nidra I facilitate is called Integrative Restoration, or iRest, which is an immensely powerful technique for deep relaxation and healing for both mind and body.
The practice offers vast benefits by working to calm the nervous system, leading to reduced stress, greater focus and improved physical health. It has been developed to create a space to explore what you need in the moment as well as providing opportunity to ease and release the weight of heavy emotions. As a result, iRest has been found to be especially beneficial for people who have depression or post-traumatic stress.
Classes are 4:30-6:30pm on the following dates:
